Obituary of Kathleen S. Smith
Kathleen Stephanie Smith (Quagliato) of Boonton, NJ passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She was born in Presbyterian Hospital in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ in May 1943 to Anthony and Katherine Quagliato.
She graduated in the top 10 of her class at East Side High School in Newark in 1961. Upon graduation she joined the steno pool at Mutual Benefit Insurance Co. She went on to work as a secretary for the Public Defenders Office in Newark, then for the State of NJ Consumer Fraud Bureau.
Kathleen married George Smith at St. Casimir’s in January of 1970. She became a stay-at-home mom to daughters, Jennifer and Alexis.
She was employed from 1984 until her retirement in 2005 at School Street School in Boonton as a teacher’s aide. Her true joy was teaching her young students, and later, spending time with her five grandsons, Jason and Max Bauman; and Andrew, Ajay and Aidan Piombino.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Smith; her daughters, Jennifer Smith and Alexis Piombino; her son-in-law, Drew Piombino; her sister, Marie Pizza and her husband, Pat; her grandsons; and many relatives and friends.
