Obituary of Siro Anthony Del Favero
Siro Anthony Del Favero passed away at the age of 98 on November 6, 2023, at the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton.
He was born in Clifton, NJ, in December 1924, and grew up in Garfield with four siblings. He was a member of the local YMCA where he became a competitive swimmer. Siro was a graduate of Garfield High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army stateside during World War 2 (1943 to 1946) and in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War (1950 to 1951). He was a volunteer firefighter with Garfield Company 4 and a member of Garfield Lodge 22. He was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University and worked for the Bergen County Court System in Hackensack for 35 years.
In 1961, Siro and Ann Marie Held were married and raised their family in Fair Lawn. He was an active member of the Fair Lawn Cosmos Club and a volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 45. Siro was an avid gardener and took much pride in his flowers that surrounded his house. He also enjoyed long walks around town and doing crossword puzzles (in pen). Siro retired to Asheville, NC, in 1994 and became an avid hiker - leading hikes and climbing to numerous summits. He resided at the NJ Firemen’s Home in Boonton, NJ from 2006 until his passing. While living in Boonton, he continued hiking and discovering the treasures of NYC, and participated in VFW 242 and Eclipse Lodge.
Siro was predeceased by his parents, Sisto and Maddalena Del Favero; his wife, Ann Marie (Held) Del Favero; and his siblings, Egeria Breda, Johnny Del Favero, and Gloria Eustice.
Siro is survived by his brother, Victor Del Favero; his children, Glenn Del Favero (and Kari), Donald Del Favero (and Kim), Lisa Elwood (and Paul); his grandchildren, Dillon, Shawn, Derek Jung Hyun, Madeline, Nicolas, Abigail; and his great-grandchildren, Madison and Grayson.
Visitation will begin at 10:30am on Thursday, November 9th at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton. A prayer service will start at 11:30am.
