Obituary of Christopher Paul Capodanno
Christopher Paul Capodanno, the loving husband of Margaret and devoted father of Isabel, entered Eternal Life on April 25, 2024. In his final days, Chris was faithfully cared for by his family and lifelong friends, who traveled long distances to be with him through the end.
In 1966, Chris was born to Paul and Laurel Capodanno in Suffern, NY. In his early years, Chris and the family lived briefly in Chicago, IL before relocating to Mountain Lakes, NJ. When he was in the second grade, the family moved cross-country to Northern California, where Chris made formative memories. He spoke of his California years with deep fondness, with stories that featured mopeds and adventure-seeking. At 13, Chris and the family returned to Mountain Lakes, where he was reunited with his best friends and formed the tight knit group that would be by his side for decades to come – brothers ’til his last day.
After graduating from Mountain Lakes High School in 1984, Chris went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware, his mother's alma mater. He applied his natural talent for understanding people and building relationships to sales. Following in his father’s footsteps, Chris began a career in the Shipping & Logistics industry, which led to a life of adventure and global travel. In the following decades, Chris developed meaningful friendships around the world, aided by his knack for languages and memory for personal details.
Chris and Margaret met through mutual friends in 1991 and, three years later, they married. Throughout their marriage, Chris and Margaret lived in many places: Chicago, various parts of New Jersey, Atlanta and Singapore, where Izzy was born. A love for adventure, food, history, and music forged their family bond. When it came to putting down roots, the family returned to Chris' hometown of Mountain Lakes, NJ.
Chris was a loyal friend, brother and son. He will be remembered as a nature lover, Adverture seeker, lifelong Deadhead, sports enthusiast, generous mentor, intrepid traveler, foodie and dedicated community volunteer as a member of the Mountain Lakes Shade Tree Commission, the Environmental Commission, and the Economic Development Advisory Committee.
Chris is survived by his wife and child, his parents, and siblings Cathy Van Evra (Kyle), David (Carolyn), Steve (Christina), in-laws Dennis and Marianne Cummins, Beth Nolan (Michael), Martin (Stefanie White), Dennis III, Keshawn Clark (Jennifer Cortes); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
On Saturday, July 20th, at noon, a Memorial Mass will be held in St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes. In place of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Chris’ name to one of three charities: SEKO Project Cure - Containers for Capo, Esophageal Cancer Action Network (ECAN), or A Tree to Remember.
