Helga always used to come to my dance competitions/recitals. She’d show up impeccably dressed and was always ready to participate in whatever shenanigans we were getting up to (like getting matching sharpie tattoos with everyone). When she came to my dance performances, my friends would ask: “Who is that?” and I would always think because I knew she wasn’t biologically related to me, but I knew she was family. In the end, I would say “She’s my German family” because I always thought of her when I thought of my Opa, Great Tante Angelika, and Omi. I am proud to say that she is forever my fashion icon, the best basket-giver, an amazing hostess, a perfume master, my favorite interior designer, and honorary oma <3
