Obituary of Valerie Jean Johnson - Korn
After a five year valiant fight against cancer, Valerie Johnson - Korn, with her husband David by her side, passed away on August 28, 2023.
A graduate of Morris Hills High School in Rockaway, NJ, Valerie went on to receive a degree in Germanic studies and literature from Rutgers University.
Her career path took a different direction when she joined the family business and became a cook at the Park House Tavern in Boonton, NJ. Aspiring to always have her own restaurant, she later became the owner of Valerie’s at Lake Hopatcong. With the heart of a teacher she mentored many in the restaurant business, often referring to them as her “kids”.
A talented musician, Valerie played the piano, guitar, and banjo. Her true talent, however, was in cooking and baking. Never one to pass up a new recipe, she enjoyed feeding people for all kinds of special occasions.
Quick witted, she always had a funny quip to share with those that crossed her path. Even during the throws of her illness she surprised many with her often sarcastic, funny wit.
In addition to her career, Valerie was a devoted wife to her husband, David Korn. She was also survived by her mother, Virginia Ann Johnson; her sister, Kathleen Spinozzi; and her brother, Thomas Johnson. She was a friend for life to many. Our hearts hurt from her passing. Rest in peace my big sister, you will be missed!
Please visit with the family on Thursday, August 31st from 4:00 - 7:00PM at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery, Boonton will be Friday, September 1st at 11:00AM. To share a condolence visit CodeyMackeyFH.com.
