Obituary of Ramon Rios, Sr.
Ramon Rios, Sr., 78, of Boonton, NJ passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico to Raul Sr. and Carmen (Galloza) Rios, he was one of 10 children. Ramon moved to New Jersey in 1963 and settled in Dover. He met Gladys King on a blind date. She didn’t care for Ramon, but he asked her to teach him English. Ramon wore her down over time and they were married 57 years ago.
Ramon was a maintenance mechanic at Bell Labs in Whippany before he retired. In his spare time, he loved to fish – both fresh and saltwater – traveling to different lakes all over and to the Atlantic Ocean. He enjoyed being out in his canoe as well.
Ramon collected and lovingly restored classic cars, including a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a 1960 Dodge Phoenix, a 1962 Mercury Monterey and a 1970 Chevy C-10 pickup truck. He was extremely handy and enjoyed fixing things. Ramon especially liked helping others. He was also a pet lover, including cats, dogs, pigs, cows, goats and chickens.
Ramon is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys; his cherished children, Carol Friedenberger (Bryan); Ramon Rios, Jr. (Pam); and David Rios (Liz); his loving grandchildren, Leanne, Ramon III and Ava Rios; his eight siblings and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Raul Rios, Jr.
