Obituary of Patricia Carol Goodman
Patricia Carol Goodman (nee Shanahan), 83, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 11, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard (Dick) in December 2021. Pat is survived by her cherished children, Cheryl Stone-Maguire (Noel); Richard Goodman; Katherine Lubertazzi (Glenn); and Tricia Jost (Edward); her six adored grandchildren, Adam Stone; Danielle Doyle (Brian); Allison Lubertazzi; Matthew Lubertazzi; Paul Jost; and William Jost; and one great-grandson, Joseph Doyle. Pat also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gregory, Michael and Patrick; and her sisters, Barbara Hanlon and Sharon Barber.
Pat was born in Laurence Harbor, NJ to the late Gregory and Lillian Shanahan. She was raised, along with her five siblings, in Clifton, NJ. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and Clifton High School. In 1957, Pat and Dick married and soon built their lifelong home, where they raised their four children, in Towaco, NJ.
Pat worked as an award-winning realtor in Morris County for decades until retiring to spend time with her family and enjoy her hobbies and travelling.
Pat’s many talents and interests included a lifelong insatiable love for reading. She would easily read through 2-3 books a week, in addition to her daily crosswords. As an avid Jeopardy fan, Pat would amaze those around her as she swept categories with ease, utilizing her vast knowledge on a myriad of topics. She enjoyed the theatre, and often took in shows on Broadway, at the Paper Mill Playhouse and The Barn Theatre.
Pat loved to bake and would supply pies, cakes and cookies for all family holidays. Family and friends also gathered for over 30 years to attend Pat’s annual Family Christmas Cookie Decorating contest, where she would bake hundreds of sugar cookies, to be decorated in hopes of winning the coveted trophy. Pat was also a great cook and took pride in making the best turkey gravy from scratch as well as serving gourmet food at her gatherings.
She enjoyed gardening and had beautiful tulips, peonys and lilacs blooming around her home every spring. Pat made many trips to Europe, the Caribbean and all across the United States. Her most recent trips included her daughters and granddaughters, as they traversed the “Sound of Music” tour through Austria.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 21st at 10:30am in St. Pius X Church in Montville.
