Mr. Von Sternberg was such a nice man. When I was on the fire department he always made me laugh and smile! He always encouraged me and was a great mentor. He will be missed dearly. Fly high

Please accept my sincere condolences. I worked at Mountain Lakes Borough Hall for over 30 years, and had the pleasure of knowing John. He was such a nice man, and I know he will be missed by his family and the many friends he made along the way. He was a true gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.

John was a special person, always smiling and soft spoken. He had a gentle way about him. I've known John for nearly 40 years dating back to the start of my real estate career with Schlott. Always supportive, hard working and dedicated. I will miss truly miss seeing you when I cover the Mountain Lakes office, it always made me smile when you came in to say Hi to me bright and early in morning. R.I.P.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. Condolences to his friends and family. John was the Fire Chief when I joined the Junior Fire Department in 1977. He was always very friendly and welcoming, even to the Juniors. His contributions and service to the community are beyond impressive. I am humbled but proud to have shared a couple things in common with him, having served as MLVFD President in the mid-80's before relocating to California and being named Citizen of the Year in Westlake Village in 2011.
Rest in peace,
Scott Perrotty

So sorry to learn of John’s passing. My family lived next door to John’s parents in the 60’s. I’ll never forget the Memorial Day that he let me ride in the fire truck...an experience I fondly remember.
John was a kind and generous man, and will be missed.
