Obituary of Barbara Flanagan

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Barbara Flanagan, of Morris Plains NJ, passed away on December 4, 2019 surrounded by her family with the love and peace she deserved.

Barbara was intimately interested in the journey of life. A journey that included people, places, animals and nature – and our relationships that we all have with each one of them. Barbara subscribed to the Hand of God Theory in that God's presence can be seen in everything around us. Her faith and spirituality transcended any church or religion.

Barbara was a voracious reader with an unyielding sense curiosity. She would appreciate people's accomplishments not only for what was achieved, but more importantly to her was how they achieved them.

Conversations with Barbara could quickly move from a new find at Trader Joe's to spirituality, the State of our Union, and family genealogy. Barbara especially enjoyed looking for an Irish connection in anyone she met. Her quick wit and her unmistakable and infectious laugh were enjoyed by many. She built and enjoyed meaningful relationships in all aspects of her life. She cherished her long standing and loving relationship with her many Friends of Bill. She had a gift for making everyone feel as though they had a special and unique connection with her. The truth is, they did.

Barbara is survived by her two children Nancy Palazzi (Chris) and Peter Holmberg (Kathleen), Grandchildren Kassy, Jack, Nick, Grace, Matt, Emily, Peter and Kendall. Barbara was also very proud of her Step-Children George Falcon (Grayson), Kate Girard (Paul) and many loving nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.

Barbara was born to parents Mary Elizabeth Callaghan Flanagan and Martin Thomas Flanagan in Orange, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her sister Hope Gorman and brother Tom Flanagan.

Barbara was a graduate of Boonton High School. Following graduation, she lived and worked in New York City before returning to Morris County, raising her family while enjoying a successful forty year career in real estate in Mountain Lakes. She took great pride in her profession, before retiring in 2017. She was grateful for her colleagues at Coldwell Banker whom she considered family.

The memorial visitation will take place at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Friday December 6, 2019 from 5pm-8pm.
