Obituary of Grace Lucille Horan
Grace Horan, Devoted Mother and Grandmother, Dies at 92
Grace Lucille Horan, (née Nolan), passed away on Sunday, November 25 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville after a full and wonderful life. She was born on October 9, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J.
During her years at St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, Grace met her future husband, Don Horan, whom she married in September 1950. They moved to Boonton in 1956 and built their home, where Grace resided until her passing. Don was an author, and television and film director, who won an Emmy in the 1960s.
Grace began her career in 1943 working at the Colgate-Palmolive Company in Jersey City until 1951. After raising her four children, she worked at the State Bank of North Jersey in Boonton Township, which later became Citizens First National Bank, where she held the title of Assistant Cashier. While assisting the manager with the daily operations of the Boonton Township branch, she became more than a banker, making friends with many of her customers during her 20 years before retiring in 1991.
Grace was a member of Rockaway River Country Club (RRCC) in Denville, where she and her husband were members since the 1950s. For many years, Grace was a member of the RRCC Ladies Bowling League. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Boonton for more than 60 years.
Grace was pre-deceased by her parents, Patrick and Anna Nolan, her brothers Joseph and Richard Nolan and her husband Don Horan. She is survived by her loving children, Donna Grant of Montclair, Va., Brian Horan and Cathy Dunn of Boonton, and Gerilyn Horan of Mountain Lakes, her sister Mary Nolan of Denville, along with her devoted grandchildren, Ryan, Kerry and Meghan Dunn, Griffin and Susan Grant, Jack Adler, and great-granddaughter, Lily Grant. There is nothing she loved more than her family but enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures such as vacationing with her loved ones in beautiful Hilton Head Island, which she did all the way up to her 91st birthday.
Visitation will be held at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home at 107 Essex Avenue in Boonton on Friday, November 30 from 3-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Boonton on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 am. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Boonton.
