Obituary of Herbert W. Messinger

Herbert W. Messinger "Herbie", of Boonton, NJ, passed away on June 3, 2014 peacefully with his family by his side on Lake Hopatcong, NJ. He was 85 years old. Herbie was born in Boonton, where he lived for most of his life. He also resided in Starrucca, PA and wintered in Plant City, FL. Mr. Messinger was a US Veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving in the US Navy. He was a sheet metal worker with Westinghouse in Randolph, NJ for 30 years until his retirement. Herbie was a member of the American Legion Post in PA. He had many friends not only in New Jersey, but also in Florida and Pennsylvania as well, with whom he enjoyed golfing, biking and playing the trumpet. Last but not least, he was an avid Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Reds fan. Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth A. Cole and her companion John Chalmers, and Theresa J. DeRienzo; a cousin Douglas Smith and his wife Debra; also many step children and step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Irene. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
