Retired Newark Fire Captain
Eugene Doherty, 85, of Mountain Lakes, NJ, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:00 am in St. Catherine of Sienna R.C. Church, 10 N. Pocono Rd., Mountain Lakes to celebrate his life.

Born in Vailsburg, Newark, Eugene graduated from St. Benedicts Prep and lived in South Orange, Mountain lakes and Naples, Florida, before returning to live in Mountain Lakes. He was a Captain of the Fire Department, Engine 20, in Newark and a member of the Steamfitters Union Local 475 before retiring.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Bernice Killoran Doherty, in 2009 and a son, Brian Doherty, in 2001.
Surviving are his devoted children, Marybeth Lopez and her husband, Dr. Juan, Bridgid Walsh and her husband, Justin, both of Mountain Lakes and Eugene Doherty Jr., of Monmouth Beach, and a daughter-in-law, Rosemary McFadden Doherty of Allenhurst. Eugene was the cherished Grandfather of nine and the Great-Grandfather of six. He is also survived by his dear brother Robert Doherty of New Bern, NC and dear sister Patricia McMahon of Rumson. Above all, Eugene will be remembered with love as a man of character who devoted his life to his wife and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Benedicts Prep, 520 Martin Luther King Jr Newark would be appreciated.
