Dick was my flight instructor when I worked at Aircraft Radio Corp. in Boonton in 1965-66. He gave me 13 hours of instruction on Cessna's 150, 172 and 185. He was a wonderful guy.

I am the son of Warren Darress Sr.I remember going to Ruth and Dick's house for a wonderful Darress Reunion in 1959 and swimming in their pond. Also at the death of my Grandpa Bart Darress, Dick flew from NJ to Zahn's airfield on LI for the funeral and celebration party at Uncle Bart's house in West Islip. I have photos of those occasions from my Dad slides which I attached to enjoy.

We never met Captain Plahn, but we know his daughters, son-in-law, and grandsons. And we know that they loved him dearly. Captain Plahn raised a beautiful family, and left a memorable legacy. His courage and integrity, especially during World War II and after, and his ever-present sense of optimism (of which we often heard)substantiate that legacy. God bless you, Plahn Family. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

My fondest memory of my cousin was his uncontrollable laughter when I introduced him to my cousin Rony. Of course the two cousins had known each other for years; they laughingly forgave me, but would not let me forget!! I was the youngest of the Darress cousins by 20+ years and rarely saw them together. Oops.
Dick loved animals and always had pet dogs. He was able to rescue two baby raccoons one for Barbara, Nancy, and one for my sister, Deanna, and myself. I was in heaven to have a pet raccoon.
My father and Dick were very close as uncle and nephew, as pilots, and as "Buddies". They are together again.

As a young lad of ~8yr, Mom & Dad (Bart & Maggie) were having a back yard family picnic. Dad said that Dick was coming and he might even be flying overhead. All morning long when there was a sound above, we were all searching the sky for a small plane. Then came the roar of the engine, the silver streak as he made steep turn, low passes over the picnic. He was so close I could even see Dick waving from the plane. That may have been the first seeds that prompted me to be a pilot later in life. Thanks Dick for a gift for life !!

Dick was the older cousin that I always looked up to as a hero.Dick was my first cousin on my father's Darress
side of the family.I remember when he came home from WWII and the story he told about paying for a dress to be made for Ruth from his parachute. He never received it.
I remember the Darress family reunion which was held at their home. It was great to have the family together.
Dick and Ruth would faithfully come to our family celebrations at our home.
Our deepest sympathy to Barbara and Nancy on the loss of their dad.
