MOUNTAIN LAKES---Lisa Mary (Schmitt) Gannon died Friday, May 28, 2010 at her home following a long and valiant battle with multiple sclerosis. She was 49.
Born in Passaic, she lived in Mountain Lakes, then Boonton for two years before returning to Mountain Lakes in 1991. Mrs. Gannon was the administrative director of cardiology with Atlantic Health Systems, Morristown for 16 years before leaving work in April of 1998.
She graduated from Mountain Lakes High School in 1978, received her bachelor's degree in nursing from William Paterson University in 1982 and her master's degree in community health education from Montclair State University in 1989. While attending college she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Theta Tau societies.
A longtime parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church, she was a former CCD teacher there. She was a member of the American College of Cardiology Administrators and a board member of the American Heart Association. In addition, she was a Girl Scout Leader with Troop #528, Mountain Lakes.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, James M.; a daughter, Katelyn Renee of Mountain Lakes; her parents, Raymond J. and Barbara Anne (O'Brien) Schmitt of Pequannock Township; her brothers, Raymond V. Schmitt of Monroe, CT and Michael J. Schmitt of Mountain Lakes; her triplet sisters, Loren M. Katsakos of Boonton and Linda M. Castellucci of Mountain Lakes and another sister Chrys-Ann Kirby of Hopewell. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 1st at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Mountain Lakes with interment to follow at Rockaway Valley Cemetery, Boonton Township. Friends may call Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. (mackeyfh.com).
Memorial contributions in Lisa's name may be made to either Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, 33 Bleeker St., Millburn, NJ 07041 or the Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 16, Boonton, NJ 07005. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
