Donald Richard Cannon died on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. He was 86. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Cannon was a longtime resident of Montvale and Waldwick before moving to Denville. He was employed as a managing editor at McGraw Hill in NY before retiring in 1993. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Brooklyn Poly Tech, taught business writing and tutored English part time in local colleges. He sang in church and local choir groups, enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid NY Giants fan. Mr. Cannon's wife, Eleanor D. Cannon died in December, 2009.
Survivors include his three sons, Donald R. Cannon, Jr. of Warwick, N.Y., Jeffrey D. Cannon of Pompton Lakes, NJ and Andrew P. Cannon and his wife Brenda of Amherst, N.H.; four grandchildren; Trisha, Margeaux, Jack, Julia and the late Benjamin Cannon (2008).
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 6 p.m. until service time at Mackey Funeral Home (mackeyfh.com) 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. The funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Contributions in Donald's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
